Invigorating note 2 The Bitchiness of Kaikayi: I like my Mythological and Historical Fiction to be detailed and descriptive enough.
Will post summary of Book-1 soon in a day or so. Even though I have read that the author has added his own imagination in the story telling and that his version of the story deviates a lot from the original Ramayana, the novel refreshed a lot of my childhood memories that I had of the epic saga. But anyone who reads this — keep your finger in the glossary, and be prepared to do a lot of flipping.
For those having no knowledge of the original Ramayana story, I would like to break the news, if not already broken through some other means, that the lead protagonist Rama is an incarnation of the Almighty himself. This is not just because of the very visual treatment of the story but also because of the dramatisation of each incident.
If you are willing to overlook Banker’s personal, flawed depiction of divine beings and ancient Bharata’s geography, or and if you want to read an epic can I say high fantasy without the fantasy?
I gobbled-up the first six of the series as and when they were released. Kaikayi also manages to boil up the atmosphere as the husband-usurping warrior queen.

There’s a problem xshok this menu right now. Perhaps this is simply my own problem. As a novel, Prince of Ayodhya has several shortcomings. One that has not been over exploited. Write a customer review. And this is not the only example. Although often the most interesting ramyaana informative device about Banker’s re-imagined world, the dialog was sometimes either crass and laughable or just completely wannabe. Classic Story retold in a Tolkien-ish manner with a large flavor of Banker — has worked hard!!

Despite some unexpected concepts such as talking about the Philosophical Brahman as a lord of magical sorcery, the book makes reading bznker heavy book very breezy. The first feeling I got while going through this book bankerr as if I was watching a Bollywood flick.

If there is anyone who can write humanised Indian mythology with such vivid description, it can only be Ashok Banker. The same script doesn’t mean they can be treated the same. Beyond a very little palace intrigue, and a moderate amount of exposition, there’s not much there–almost no character development, and very little actual plot.

It is a world full of magic created by through repeated retelling over centuries and repackaged by Ashok Banker in an engrossing manner. The whole book of odd pages can be summarized in 2 sentences. Banker has recreated this epic tale for modern readers everywhere In this first book of the Ramayana, it is predicted Ayodhya, legendary capital of warriors and seers, will soon be a wasteland of ashes and blood.
