He has a keen sense on how to flesh the language out to make story richer. The first few stories were 3 stars. I’ve only read Martian Chronicles previously, and I love the way Bradbury’s descriptions and cadence really flow naturally.
Not all of the stories in this collection of Bradbury’s short fiction are great, or even that memorable, but one or two of them will stick with me — I particularly enjoyed ‘Embroidery’, which was well-structured and had a lovely final paragraph.
View all 6 comments. Do you know why teachers use me? There is, however, very little by way of genuine chaff here, and Bradbury completists will want to seek out this volume for its inclusion of three stories not collected in the later editions alluded to above.

More than just a collection of scifi themed short stories. What if competition is eliminated? They read about rocket ships and encounters in space, tales of dinosaurs. Especially the story The Meadow is very beautiful when put in context, and als Bradbury is truly a master of the short story and it is always a pleasure to read them.
The quality is just so much higher than something like a Richard Matheson collection, which executes interesting eo in a flat and tiresome manner. They tend toward the magical and allegorical.

The stories on the surface seem so far fetched, yet underneath there are beautiful layers to peel back and think on. I read the original printed edition from the 50ies and what really strikes me is how current many of the topics he writes about are e. Bradbury’s got a quaint sort of writing style and most of his tales have that bite you in ass ending. Two women ready for a move to mars, one makes a very long distant phone call and receives the encouragement she needs to take that step.

One of the best collections of American short stories, even if many of them are technically science-fiction.
